Superb place for seeing live bands.Could do with a few more bar staff though, as gets very busy.Very close to station and hotel.
Ridiculously priced drinks and extremely rude landlords. Disgusting toilets. If you want to pay the most expensive prices for a beverage whilst witnessing Mike Shewbrooks masterclass of appalling customer service and enjoy the experience of using disgusting, unhygienic toilets, not to mention a limited, smelly beer garden that has won numerous awards (for reasons I cannot seem to comprehend) then this is the place for you. The only reason why 1 star is only there because the actual bar staff are great and genuinely good people. Avoid at all costs.

A massive THANK YOU to Mike and his Barman who served us so well during our evening in the function room at the Essex Arms last night. The food was fantastic, the Hog roast, roast potatoes & Yorkshires were perfect. A very memorable evening for all our bandies 40 year reunion.
